This is your Ultimate introduction to flying, not only do you get to fly a real aircraft, you will also get an insight into the pre flight preparations and planning that goes into every flight.

Your day will start at 9am:

9 am – Introduction talk where we will talk you through the days events and have a brief on the basic controls of the aircraft and their effects.

9.30 am- The ‘A check’ – This is a thorough pre flight check of the aircrafts systems and controls prior to flight. All pilots will complete this check prior to flight as per the aircrafts check lists. This is great way to learn about the aircrafts controls systems and the reasons behind the check.

10.30 am – Pre Flight Planning Session – During this session you will review the weather, aircraft performance and plan both the outbound and return flight including diversion options. This is a classroom session with the instruction team to give you an insight into how we would plan a route in its basic form and how we fly the planned route.

Now the fun part the flying…..

11.45 Out bound flight

You will be in a four seater aircraft with another pilot and instructor.

One of you will take the role of the pilot, being instructed to fly the aircraft by one of our flight instructors. The other candidate will perform the role of navigator, following the chart and planned route to our destination. Don’t panic the instructor will not let you get lost, but will guide you both through the flight in your separate roles. You will be relieved to know that the instructor will also complete the take off and landing for you, although you will have control of the aircraft for the majority of the flight.

On arrival at the alternate airfield

We will stop for a cup of tea, a bacon sandwich and look around the airfield, giving us time to review the outbound flight and talk about the return journey. Note: any refreshments are not included at the destination airfield, but we will offer tea and coffee free of charge at our Coventry location.

Return Journey

So you have now swapped roles in the aircraft and if you were originally the pilot, you now assume the role of navigator.

Navigation is a huge part of any pilots work load, so you can get to experience this without the pressure of also flying the aircraft. You will be timing each leg to see if you are working to your plan and reach the desired way points at the desired time and recording your timings. Will you successfully navigate the pilot back to Coventry or another destination unknown?

14.30 Talk about what it takes to become a pilot

Our head of training will talk you through all aspects of becoming a private pilot, including medicals, theoretical training, flight training and exams.

15.15 Tower Tour

Visit Coventry Airports control tower and see the runway from a different perspective

15.45 simulator session

Put all you have learnt into practice and attempt your first landing from 3 miles out at Coventry under the supervision of a simulator instructor.

17.00 Wrap up session

We have been scoring you on your abilities during the day and the best candidate will be put into a prize draw to win a 30 minute flying lesson with us.

Will will issue all candidates with a certificate of completion and a log book to log their hours in.
