Commercial Pilot Licence course structure
The Almat Commercial Pilot Licence course combines simulator sessions with single-engine and multi-engine flight training.
The course includes:
- 5 hours of FNPT II simulator training
- 10 hours in a single-engine non-complex aircraft
- 10 hours of multi-engine flight training
Therefore, you will complete 25 hours of structured simulator and aircraft training.
FNPT II simulator training
You will complete five hours of training in an FNPT II simulator. These sessions allow you to practise procedures in a controlled environment. They also help you improve your instrument flying skills. Simulator training provides an efficient way to learn and practise procedures. You can then apply those procedures during your aircraft training.
Single-engine aircraft training
You will complete 10 hours of training in a single-engine non-complex aircraft. This part of the course develops accurate aircraft handling and commercial flight procedures. It also improves your decision-making skills.
Throughout the training, your instructor will focus on the professional standards expected from a Commercial Pilot Licence holder.
Multi-engine flight training
The course also includes 10 hours of multi-engine flight training. During these lessons, you will develop your multi-engine aircraft handling skills. You will also improve your situational awareness and workload management.
In addition, you will learn the procedures associated with operating a multi-engine aircraft.

Pre-requisites For Modular CPL (a)
Before starting the CPL flying course, you normally need:
- An ICAO-compliant PPL(A).
- A valid UK Class 1 medical.
- At least 150 hours of total flight time.
- Valid passes in all required CPL(A) or ATPL(A) theoretical-knowledge examinations.
- A valid UK Flight Radiotelephony Operator’s Licence—FRTOL, or qualification for its issue, before attempting the CPL skill test.
- If taking the skill test in a multi-engine aeroplane, completion of the prerequisites for the relevant multi-engine class or type rating.
The CPL modular flying course must be completed as one continuous course at an ATO.
Before the modular CPL skill test
You must have at least:
- 200 hours total flight time.
- 100 hours as pilot-in-command, including 20 hours of cross-country PIC.
- One VFR cross-country flight of at least 300 nautical miles/540 km, with full-stop landings at two aerodromes other than the departure aerodrome.
- 5 hours of night flying.
- 10 hours of instrument instruction.
- Completed the approved CPL training and received an ATO recommendation for the test.
