For each trial flying lesson your instructor gives you a pre-flight briefing. You are introduced to the basic flying controls, main instruments and profile of the flight. Membership is not required. Flight time can be logged and counted as experience towards getting a Pilots Licence (age 14+ only).

Trial Flying Lessons – What to Expect

You sit in the Captain’s seat, which gives you the best perspective of the instruments and your own set of controls.
Control the plane for the majority of the flight.
Learn the basics of maneuvering the aircraft.

After you land your instrcutor gives you a short debrief and answers any questions you may have. If you have a logbook or want to get one, they can also show you how to fill it in. Furthermore, you can get a FREE consultation with one of of the Almat team. We can help you decide what direction to go with your pilot training.

The flight time logged can also count towards getting a Private Pilots Licence (NPPL or PPL).

Free Consultation

A trial lesson qualifies you for a free consultation regarding joining a course to pursue a pilot licence with us. You can also read one of our free learn to fly guides.

Passengers

You cannot bring passengers if your flight is in a 2 seat aircraft. If you are in a 4 seat aircraft you may be able to bring up to one passenger. This is not guaranteed and is subject to legal weight limits. We calculate this depending on the aircraft, fuel load, passenger and pilot weights, and environmental conditions.

If you want to bring a passenger please notify our office on 02477 220 399 in advance of your flight and provide the weight of you and the passenger. We reserve the right to weigh passengers on the day and refuse flight with passengers if we think there is any risk the aircraft would be over the legal weight limit.

Validity

All Trial lesson and experience vouchers must be redeemed within 6 months of purchase or they will void.

Had a 45 minute trial lesson out of Sywell, Apart from cancelling due to the Great british weather (absolutley no fault of Almat) once I made it into the air, was great “Ted” put me at ease throughout the whole experience and allowed me to fly over my house and other local landmarks. A great experience.

Considering the cost and time commitment, I had done a lot of research selecting a flying school which had the availability, cost and lesson management and Almat is highly reviewed at Coventry. From the very first contact, Simon provided the Learn to Fly Guide and I took a trial lesson. From that point, I was hooked and progressed straight into a consultation with Almat to join the fast track PPL scheme. The flight instructors, lessons, student support and scheduling have been fantastic and these details are the small things which add up to the difference between a great school and an average school. I have no hesitation in recommending Almat to earn your wings!

Had booked a flying trial lesson for 45minutes. Showed up there expecting they’d just give me controls for a few minutes and that’s it but man, what an experience. I was allowed to fly the aircraft for most part after we crossed the BHX airspace limits. James flew with me and what a kind and sweet guy, patient enough to explain all the details and answer all the questions. Even the reception service was one of the most friendly receptions I’ve ever had – kind and answer to the point. I might or might not take up a PPL but I’ll never forget the experience that I had here being an Avgeek. Would definitely recommend everyone to give it a go, forget the price – the experience is worth everything you’re paying for. I did have an issue with the video recording where the audio did not get recorded properly, but not that unhappy about it. If you have a GoPro, you can carry it, they have a holder on the aircraft where you can fix it(atleast the 152 I flew had it).
