ATPL (A) Course Overview

Maths and Physics Refresher Module

A solid understanding of maths and physics is essential for ATPL studies. Before beginning your course, we provide a refresher module to ensure you have a strong foundation for learning. This Maths and Physics module is delivered via Computer-Based Training (CBT) only and is not assessed through EASA or UK CAA exams.


Knowledge, Skills and AttitudesĀ 

At the start of your studies, you will also complete the Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes (KSA) module. This short introductory module is designed to equip you with essential career skills such as:

These skills will not only support your ATPL training but will also prove invaluable in your future career as a pilot.


How is Teaching Delivered?

The training is divided into three modules, which must be studied in numerical order. Each moduleā€™s courseware must be completed before sitting the exams. While exam bookings can be made in advance with BGS approval, students must complete all course materials before sitting the exams.

Bespoke courses are not available.

How Long Does the ATPL(A) Course Take?

The ATPL(A) theory course with Bristol Ground school takes 6 to 18 months, depending on your study commitment. Training combines distance learning and classroom revision, allowing you to build flying experience alongside your studies.

You must pass 13 exams for the EASA or UK CAA ATPL, completing all ATPdigital lessons before attending revision courses or sitting exams.


Course Progress & Exams

āœ”ļø Lessons & Quizzes: ATPdigital tracks progress with short quizzes (100% required) and section tests.
āœ”ļø Exams: Taken at the end of each module, with up to six sittings and four attempts per subject.
āœ”ļø Locations: Exams can be taken at Bristol Groundschool or any UK CAA/EASA centre.
āœ”ļø Priority Booking: BGS students get priority for Austro Control (EASA) exams.
āœ”ļø Exam Fees: Not included in the course cost; UK CAA exams are booked via the CAA website, while Austro Control exams at BGS can be booked directly.
