This can be obtained as an addition to your PPL or LAPL pilot licence as a post qualification addition. It allows you to fly during the official hours of night which are between 30 minutes after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise.

Training can begin from 1st November – and will finish approximately 31st January. This course is typically in high demand and so if you are considering doing this it is best to book it early. Lessons will typically be an hour and a half slot between 16:30 and 18:00.
Night Qualification for a Private Pilot Licence
Training comprises of
- a minimum at least 5 hours of flight time including:
- Including at least 3 hours of dual instruction.
- At least 1 hour of cross-country navigation with at least one dual cross-country flight of at least 50 km
- Ground School 5 Hours
The course fee does not include landing fees or the fees the CAA will charge for issuing the additional rating. The customer is responsible for making their own application and paying the fee directly to the CAA.
