Trial flying lessons through to PPL, NPPL and CPL pilot training
Flying lessons at Halfpenny Green are convenient for students across the West Midlands. The airfield sits near Bobbington in South Staffordshire, around 8 miles south-west of Wolverhampton and just west of the West Midlands conurbation โ closest towns and cities include Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Dudley, Kingswinford and Bridgnorth.
Open seven days a week, Halfpenny Green (known locally as Ha’penny Green) is one of the most active general aviation airfields in the UK, offering an excellent environment for student and licensed pilots alike, with both hard and grass runways and excellent on-site facilities. As a based operator we can fly out of hours, and pilot-activated runway lighting is available for night flying. There is a full FISO Air Traffic Service, and the airspace here is less restricted than our previous location at Coventry, which makes flight training easier.
New to flying? Trial Flying Lessons at Halfpenny Green
Our Trial Flying Lessons are the perfect way to get your hands on the controls for the first time. Every lesson starts with a pre-flight briefing, introducing you to the basic flying controls, main instruments and the profile of your flight. You’ll sit in the Captain’s seat for the best view of the instruments and your own set of controls, and you’ll control the aircraft for the majority of the flight, learning the basics of manoeuvring it yourself. Afterwards there’s a short debrief with your instructor. No membership is required, and flight time can be logged towards a pilot’s licence (age 14+).
Ready to earn your licence?
We offer PPL and NPPL training at your own pace, or our Fast Track PPL/NPPL if you want to progress quickly. Pilots looking to go further can add a Night Rating, an IMC Rating, or progress to Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) training, Multi-Engine Piston (MEP) and Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR) โ all based at Halfpenny Green.
